Couple remanded in prison over missing children

A cleric, Isaac Komolafe, and his wife, Olasunkanmi, were on Wednesday remanded in prison over their failure to account for the whereabouts of two children kept in their custody.

Emmanuel Shokunle of an Agege Customary Court ordered that the couple remain in Kirikiri Prisons until they give up a man who, they claimed, took the children away.

The children were left in their care by Salimon Ogunyemi, a family friend, after his wife travelled abroad in September 2010.

"My wife, being a friend of the pastor's wife, entrusted the two children in her care. Being a businessman, I was always busy doing one thing or another, and my wife always tells me that the children were in good condition," Ogunyemi said.

Ogunyemi told the court that he realised that his children were missing when he was told that one of his wife's cousins had taken them.

"My wife was not aware that any cousin was coming to take them; the pastor and wife said they didn't know where the man took them to," he added.
