Gunmen kill 9 in Maiduguri

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen yesterday slit the throats of three children of the same parents and shot dead six other civilians in Maiduguri, Borno state, eyewitnesses and security sources have said.
This came barely 24 hours after nine persons were confirmed dead after the same gunmen attacked Kasuwan Shanu area of Maiduguri and slaughtered them.
Suspected Boko Haram assailants had at about 1:50am yesterday attacked a household in Jiddari-Polo area of Maiduguri killed some three children, aged 5, 7 and 12.
Residents said the three kids, who were children of a secret police officer, were slaughtered while their mother who was at the back of the house heard the groaning of her children as they were being killed.
Their father, one Mr. Aduju Zubairu, was not around by the time the killers arrived.
Our correspondent in Maiduguri who visited the home of the victims in Jiddari polo saw pools of blood where the children were slaughtered.
A family member said “it took place at about 1:50 am, when the men forcefully broke the main gate violently waking up the three children, while those who heard the noise at the gate went into hiding. When the men searched and found no adult, they picked up the children who were at that time sleeping and slaughtered them before leaving. It was the wailing of the mother who came out and found her kids in the pool of blood that woke us all up.”
At about 7am in the morning, six young men were also gunned down at Lawan Bukar area when they tried to round up some Boko Haram members who invaded the area to kill innocent civilians.
A top security officer, who confirmed all the killings to Blueprint on phone, said “the six brave gunmen thought they could overpower the two Boko Haram gunmen, but latter unfortunately opened fired on them and killed all six of them.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Jubrin, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation was still on-going.
