The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) yesterday said it cannot reveal the assets of President Goodluck Jonathan or Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo because doing so would violate a section of the 1999 Constitution.
Chairman of the bureau, Mr Sam Saba, said this at the 2012 ministerial press briefing of the bureau in Abuja, pointing out that his office had received several letters seeking information on Jonathan and Sambo’s declared assets in line with the provisions of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.
Saba said the CCB cannot make public such information because that would be in conflict with Section 3(c) of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution.
The chairman also said his office will take realistic steps in ridding Nigeria of the menace of corruption, adding that the nation’s resources can be channeled into the development of infrastructure and critical sectors of the economy.
