Microsoft kills Messenger to push Skype

Today's tech news roundup bids farewell to Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft is pushing users to use Skype instead for instant messaging. The latest Skype update lets users transfer contacts from Messenger.
The new Xbox SmartGlass app is now available for Apple devices. The app turns an iOS device into a second screen for navigating through Xbox menus and media, and it's easier to type with an iOS keyboard. Some games have extra features for SmartGlass, like Halo 4, Dance Central 3 and Forza Horizon.
If you're wondering about an app for Microsoft Office, that could arrive early next year. A report from the Verge says Microsoft is crafting an Office app for Apple and Android devices, but it might require Office 365.
Sony's Reader app has finally arrived for iOS. Kindle, Nook and Kobo all had iOS apps for some time now, so Sony is quite late to the party.
DC Comics has expanded the ways to get weekly single issues on mobile devices. E-bookstores for Kindle, Apple and Nook are now selling the weekly issues for 70 comics. One such issue out today is Action Comics #14, where astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson finds Superman's home planet. But in real life, Tyson did discover a Krypton-like system 27.1 light years away.
