Jaji Bombings: military survivor dies in Egypt

A senior military officer, who was among the survivors of the twin suicide bombings that rocked St. Andrew Protestant Church at Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, on November 25, 2012, Air Commodore Godwin Owoicho Ekagbo died yesterday in an Egyptian hospital, a competent military source told Blueprint.
Ekagbo, who was Director Department of Air Warfare of the AFCSC, according to source, died after tough battle to save his life became unsuccessful, following high degree of injuries he sustained from the bombings that engulfed the Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna. He was said to have been in coma, and was rushed to Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna before being taken to Egypt.
The officer is said to have been in critical condition before he was hurriedly flown out of the country, another source said. The news on reaching Jaji threw the military community into fresh mourning yesterday.
His corpse is still being expected as at the time of this report, and hundreds of mourners have been trooping to his residence located inside the cantonment to commiserate with his family and the military community.
Ekagbo, according to his biography was born on December 31, 1959. He completed his primary education from Saint Francis Primary School Otukpo in 1972 and proceeded to Mount Saint Michael Secondary school, Aliade from January 1973 to June 1977. On completing his secondary education in 1977, he gained admission into Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in December 1977 as a member of 23rd Regular Combatant Course. The late Air commodore Ekagbo graduated from NDA in December, 1979 and proceeded to Ground Training Group, NAF Base Kaduna for further military training.
